Apparently, the idea of just saying "no" when offered the Santa gig never occured to him I think it might be a nod to Pup series. Remember the guy who was running around in a "giant hamburger" suit only because he never got a pay rise? When Daphne asked him why he hadn't looked for a new job instead, he said something like this: "I didn't think about it". ^_^
Unfortunately, as much as I appreciate the nod to the classic series, the fact that Velma changes into an outfit that provides LESS protection from the cold than her goofy elf costume is hard to ignore. It's actually a bit distracting because they're going out into a WINDY BLIZZARD and all I can think is "how the hell is she staying decent and not freezing her legs & lady parts off!?!?". I'd expect Daphne to sacrifice comfort and warmth for the sake of looking sexy; but Velma is supposed to be the practical one!! It's a mystery we may never solve... but we can always guess. So maybe she did it so Shaggy would notice her (if you know what I mean ~_^)? And as for the outside-of-the-show causes - maybe someone out there, in the HB company, was just THAT fond of her? ^_^
I was also miffed because this kinda goes against Shaggy's character in this canon, too (there was a scene in the recent Big Top movie where he started to PANIC when he realized that Velma was by herself while a werewolf was on the loose. So it doesn't seem right that he would let her go off alone in the Icy Death Mansion). He did? REALLY?! *a happy shipper squee* Oh, that's SO cute! I can't wait to see it! (Well, actually, I'm like this every time a new Scooby Doo movie is announced since I totally love the voice of the actress who dubs Velma in my country.)
Daphne and Fred wander around until Fred finds fireworks and starts squeeing like a little boy and asking Daphne if he can "pretty please" keep them and explode them later. Daphne says "no" because the rockets are evidence and scolds him like a mother scolding her toddler for even thinking of playing with dangerous explosives. IMO, this scene is just weird. I don't see why Fred needs her permission to possess fireworks and seeing her talk to him like he's her son is kinda sqicky considering they're supposed to be in an (implied) romantic relationship in these movies. Guys can be like this no matter how old they are... My brother gets all excited whenever he installs a new "cool" PC game (usually it's something about "they killed him and he ran away" ~_^) or even when he sees one in a shop... even though he's 18 AND needs to study for the high school final exam which he's going to take in May, for crying out loud! As for Daphne, I think she's already been portrayed as the Team Mom, especially when she was left alone with Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy. I know some people think these series set Shaggy and Daphne as a canon couple but to me, there's not enough evidence to prove it. So I'll just stick with my head canon that Velma and Fred went to college/university while Daphne started to work (I think she was a reporter or something like that in the 80's series) and hired Shaggy and the dogs to help... and carry her luggage. :]
Wait! How the hell does DAPHNE know this off the top of her head!? As far as I know, this isn't common knowledge to people who don't study weather science. Maybe she knows because a previous culprit tried the same schtick before. But it's still weird that she would randomly know an obscure science fact like that. Aw, come on, girl! Wanna bet that she just paid attention to Velma's lectures in exchange for running some makeovers on her? ^_^
Fred manages to free his arm and push the elevator button. How did he do it? o.O
You know what? Even if the special itself isn't that good, your comments make it funny. :) I really mean it!
