Most misogynists, like most racists and homophobes, aren't monsters. Just people too lazy to challenge their own perception of another group. The writers saw Velma and instead of dealing with her as she was, decided to turn her into their idea of what a smart, single, unconventionally attractive woman should be like.
You make a good point. However, I only made that comment because I didn't want to make assumptions about people I've never met based solely on one thing they worked on. You may very well be right; but I just wanted to cover my ass in case this show is just a horrible fluke on their parts.
