This is like a "Take that" for all the fans who wrote Shelma fics including me?
If that was the writers' (WB's?) intention, they failed. The versions of Shaggy and Velma that we saw in Mystery Incorporated are so wildly different from the way those characters have been portrayed in every other Scooby canon that their failed romance in MI only STRENGTHENED my shippy feelings for the classic versions of the characters.
Honestly, I don't think the way the romances in MI turned out is a "Take That!" at the S/V shippers. I think it's just an example of what happens when writers who have NO IDEA how to write romance and/or drama attempt to write romance and/or drama. For the life of me, I cannot fathom why WB hired writers who specialize in goofy comedies to spearhead a show where romance was meant to be a major plot point.
