Shelma hints in....Shaggy & Scooby Doo Get A Clue!?!?
Believe it or not, despite the fact that only one episode had Shaggy and the gang on screen together; this show actually had a pretty sweet Shaggy/Velma scene in it.
The episode is called “Almost Ghosts” and you can view it for free on the WB website here. In it, Shaggy meets up with the gang to solve a mystery at a military base. His reunion with Velma is surprisingly sweet and flirty. Don’t believe me? Here are some screen shots:
Note: These images were screen-captured directly from the WB website (hence the giant play button in the middle). I didn’t want to go to the time/trouble of buying or renting the DVD to get clean screen shots because, well, it’s still Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get A Clue. :P
After Shaggy and Scooby greet the gang…

Velma gets touchy feely when she corrects his mispronunciation of the word “disintegration” (this is a running joke in this episode)

When Fred and Daphne walk off to the base, Shaggy holds Velma back and asks her to say “Jinkies” for him a few times because he misses the sound of it.
If you just want to see this particular scene, skip to the 14:00 mark in the WB video. It’s an incredibly cute scene if you can get past the fact that Shaggy is voiced by Redd Herring.

And the running joke continues on the base

Kinda makes you wonder how their interaction would have been handled if the whole gang had been part of this show. Heaven knows Shaggy and Velma showed more romantic chemistry this little scene than they have in the entirety of a certain OTHER Scooby Cartoon.
I know it’s hip to hate on this show, but I see it as a massive missed opportunity. It had a few good things going for it (I’m one of the few people who kinda liked the designs). But it screwed up by changing WAY too many things, getting rid of most of the gang, and having villains who were blatant rip-offs of The Monarch’s crew from Venture Brothers
So, what do you guys think?
