Thanks for this. Velma's characterization is AWFUL and Daphne's isn't much better. But I disagree with you on this part:

Most misogynists, like most racists and homophobes, aren't monsters. Just people too lazy to challenge their own perception of another group. The writers saw Velma and instead of dealing with her as she was, decided to turn her into their idea of what a smart, single, unconventionally attractive woman should be like.
